a new perspective

Popping back in here to share some more #isolationcreation with you all. [I don’t know where that hashtag originated, but I saw it first from Krystal of This Time Tomorrow, one of my favorite NYC bloggers whose creative eye I admire].

Can I just say again, thank you so much for all the love you showed me on my last post. Creating that really did feel like I was stepping out of my comfort zone-both shooting in my apartment and using a self timer and a tripod. So, to feel like that piece resonated with you really does make me happy.

I’m back at it again with the tripod [aka my new best friend]. This time we took on the fire escape. Fire escapes aren’t exactly uncharted territory anymore (see here), but this was my first time tacking a fire escape with the tripod. Yes, you read that right. I took the tripod out on the fire escape. But not until after lots [and lots] of testing sans my DSLR to confirm items wouldn’t go plummeting feet to their demise. Once I did attach my camera, it took me some time to re-adjust out there, but I eventually got the hang of it.

While I was learning by trial and error, something I’ve been doing a lot these days, I couldn’t help but take in the view from above.  What incredible perspective just a couple inches can make? Everything from the pizza shop down the street to my neighbor across the street who works from home [we often wave at each other at 7pm during #clapforourcarers] seems a little different. The day to day errands of my neighborhood- deliveries, folks walking their dogs- all take on a new flair when viewed from a couple inches up.

I thought to myself, what a difference a couple of steps or rather a change in perspective can make. I remind myself that the same thing will be true when this is all over. [Because yes, this too shall pass]. In truth, I already feel a change when thinking back to when this all first started. And I take comfort in that. What a difference a new perspective can bring.
